7 DAYS TREK MOUNT KILIMANJARO

The Machame Route, considered the most picturesque among the various ascent routes up Mount Kilimanjaro, is ideal for adventurous hikers seeking a physically demanding trek compared to the routes of Marangu or Rongai. The climb can be completed in either six or seven days.

Named the "Whiskey" route, it is a popular and beautiful trail, offering some challenging climbs but rewarding those who train hard and persevere. An extra day is included in the itinerary for acclimatization, striking a perfect balance between difficulty and the scenic splendor of Machame.

7 Days Trek Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Moshi to Machame Camp

You'll be picked up from your lodging in Moshi and transported to Kilimanjaro National Park. After meeting your guides, your trek begins through the lush jungle covering the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. The hike lasts around 5-6 hours, offering a mini-safari experience with opportunities to spot fauna like black and white colobus monkeys. The day ends at Machame Camp (3,000 meters) with your tents set up, hot water ready for bathing, and nourishing food to recharge for the next day.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Today's hike is shorter but starts early. The landscape changes from lush woodland to scrubby moorland, providing a completely different trekking experience. By midday, you'll reach Shira Camp, where you can relax and take in the breathtaking views of the Kibo glacier from the Shira Plateau.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

After breakfast, you'll head towards the imposing Lava Tower (4,640m), your first objective for the day. Following a 700m ascent, you'll gradually descend to Barranco Camp at 4,500m. The picturesque Barranco Camp, located in the shadow of the commanding Barranco Wall, will be your home for the night.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Continuing for another 3-4 hours, you'll reach the Karanga Valley campsite. You'll have time for lunch and an afternoon to rest and acclimate. Today, you'll face the Barranco Wall, involving a bit of traditional rock climbing.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

After breakfast, you'll trek for another two to three hours, passing through an alpine desert landscape, creating a surreal hiking experience. It's crucial to have a substantial dinner and stay hydrated as you'll be summiting tomorrow.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

You'll start early in the morning, around midnight. Your climbing crew will wake you with hot tea and food for energy. Hiking in darkness, it will take 5-7 hours to reach Stella Point just before dawn. The next two hours of challenging hiking will lead you to Uhuru Peak, the ultimate destination at 5,985 meters, where you can witness a spectacular sunrise and take in the vast vista. After celebrating and capturing memories, you'll descend to Barafu Camp for lunch and a brief rest before proceeding to Mweka Camp to spend the night.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Moshi

This is a special day as you'll have your final breakfast on the mountain before heading down to the Mweka Gate. Here, you can celebrate with your porters and guides, show appreciation for their hard work, and receive your completion certificate. Your driver will then take you to your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha, where you can rest and recuperate.
