5-DAY COMPACT BIG FIVE SAFARI
Safari Overview
- Total Days: 5 Days / 4 Nights
- Best For: First-time safari-goers, couples, and photography enthusiasts.
- Key Wildlife: The Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino), plus Cheetahs and the Wildebeest Migration.
Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Your adventure begins with a drive to Tarangire, where you will spend the afternoon among the park's famous giant elephants and ancient baobab trees. After a day of tracking lions and buffalo along the river, you will head to Maramboi Tented Lodge. These lodges offer spacious en-suite tents on raised wooden platforms, allowing you to enjoy views of the Great Rift Valley or Lake Burunge as the sun sets.
Day 2: Central Serengeti National Park
Today you travel into the heart of the Serengeti, entering the Seronera Valley, a region renowned for its high concentration of leopards and lions. Your home for the night is Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp, which are authentic mobile-style bush camps. These locations provide an immersive "under canvas" experience where you can listen to the calls of the wild while enjoying the comfort of a real bed and private bathroom.
Day 3: Serengeti Plains Exploration
You will spend a full day navigating the endless plains in search of the Big Five and following the movements of the Great Migration. Whether you are watching cheetahs on the hunt or lions lounging on rocky kopjes, the day is packed with wildlife action before you return to your central Serengeti tented lodge. In the evening, you can gather around the "bush TV" (the campfire) to discuss the day's sightings with fellow travelers under the vast African sky.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Rim
After a final morning game drive in the Serengeti, you will drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ascending to the lush, forested heights of the crater rim. You will check into Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp, both of which are tucked into the acacia groves right on the rim. These camps feature heated tents to keep you cozy in the cool highland air and offer the advantage of being the first to descend into the crater the next morning.
Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Floor
The final day features a descent into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a natural sanctuary where you will search for the rare Black Rhino to complete your Big Five checklist. You will explore the soda lakes and open grasslands of the crater floor before ascending and beginning your drive back to Arusha. The journey concludes in the late afternoon as you arrive back in the city for your departure or onward flight.
